The dental industry is booming and promises enormous growth potential for the future. There is a particular demand for bite guards—custom-made plastic pieces designed to help prevent excessive teeth clenching and grinding. Health insurance has covered the cost of these guards for a couple of years now.

Aligners (transparent appliances used to straighten teeth) are more popular than ever among patients. Both trends are drastically accelerating production requirements in dental laboratories. In the search for an optimal manufacturing process for these specific dental objects, a large Frankfurt-based dental laboratory quickly realized they were in the best hands with an experienced manufacturer and partner like OTEC.

With a tailored solution for faster processes and higher production volumes, the client was won over by the OTEC machine concept featuring customized processing for their specific application. The machine they previously used had to be replaced as soon as possible due to its excessive footprint, complex handling, slow process times, and insufficient production volume.

The Frankfurt dental laboratory was impressed by the customized process development at the OTEC Finishing Center. Their top priority was obtaining the best processing results for their workpieces. The OTEC solution offers maximum precision finishing for the homogeneous, smooth surfaces required for custom dental objects in the industry.

The smoothly polished surfaces of the aligners and the rounded edges of the bite guards are essential to ensure patient comfort.

The machine process kicks into turbo speed in the dental laboratory. The CF series disc finishing machines are designed for fast and flawless surface processing of a wide variety of parts. The unit features a modular design and can be configured to meet specific customer requirements. Depending on the needs, the unit is available with 9, 18, and 50-liter containers. The laboratory opted for a machine with two 18-liter containers. Now, up to 30 splints or aligners are processed simultaneously—a much higher production output than before.

Processing up to 20 times more effective with high-quality results. OTEC develops the perfect process for every part. Ceramic abrasives are used as bulk materials for mass finishing in the dental laboratory. Delicate parts are added to the stationary container along with the abrasives. As the disc rotates, the contents are set into motion in a toroidal flow. The centrifugal force applied to the bulk materials and the parts makes this process highly intensive—up to 20 times more effective than competing machines. The results are of the highest quality.

The processing time was reduced to between 15 and 60 minutes, depending on the load.

The result: Perfect results—and from now on, even faster and more reliable.

The easy handling impressed the laboratory staff.

“Above all, our employees—who are the ones actually using the equipment—are more than convinced and happy with the much simpler operation of the unit, especially compared to the previous machine“, the client confirms regarding one of the many highlights of their OTEC unit, which was particularly important for the dental technicians in the laboratory.
